In 2011, British singer Adele came out of nowhere to become one of the world’s best. Her booming voice, thoughtful lyrics, and amazing performance skills resulted in her garnering a ton of commercial/personal success.
While her music career has been nothing short of sensational, her personal life has also been quite eventful. A secret marriage to non-profit guru Simon Konecki was preceded by the birth of the couple’s child, Angelo. However, earlier this year, Adele and Simon decided to end their marriage. For a plethora of reasons, this decision may cost Adele a large chunk of her fortune.

Adele was born in London on May 5, 1988. Raised by her English mother, Adele quickly became entranced by vocal performers. As the family shuttled back-and-forth from London to the coastal city of Brighton, her love of singing stood steadfast.
Finding Her Voice

Once back in London as a teenager, Adele delved quickly into the world of vocal performance. She attended a prestigious performing arts school — where two of her classmates ultimately became famous singers (Jessie J, Leona Lewis). As for Adele, she almost decided to pass up becoming a singer completely.
Finding The Right Path

Whilst in school, Adele initially had the idea to become a booking agent for up-and-coming talent. She essentially would search for ‘the next big thing.’ While Adele seriously contemplated going down this path, her musical ability took over to the point where she had no other choice but to perform as an artist.
Breaking Out

Adele recorded a demo featuring three of her original tracks. These were put on MySpace by a friend — and ultimately heard by a prominent record label executive. Within a year of her graduating from high school, Adele was signed by XL Recordings. This set the scene for her to become a fixture within not only the U.K., but also the United States.

Adele quickly made her way up the charts. An appearance on Saturday Night Live quickly resulted in “Chasing Pavements” becoming a hit around the globe. As her persona continued to grow, Adele accumulated a number of awards. In 2008, her celebrity status took another upswing as she signed with Columbia Records.

In 2009, Adele broke out — winning two Grammy’s in 2009 (including one for Best New Artist). At this point, she truly became a global star. In 2011, her highly-anticipated album — 21 — came out. Ironically enough, the year 2011 also ushered in a relationship with her future husband, Simon.
Age Is Only A Number

Simon and Adele were an interesting couple. Aside from a 15-year age difference, Simon had no involvement in the musical world whatsoever. Initially an investment banker, he later found his calling as an entrepreneur (with a focus on non-profit work):
“I was doing well and earning a lot of money, but I got sick of that greedy and corrupted world.”
A Secret Surprise

Much of Simon’s recent life has been spent trying to fund clear water projects all over the world. He’s built multiple companies aimed at providing resources for those in need. A year after the couple started dating, Adele dropped a bomb which had all of social media completely buzzing.
It’s Baby Time

In June of 2012, the couple announced that Adele was indeed pregnant. A few months later, Adele gave birth to a boy named Angelo. At this time, the couple never officially stated that they were indeed married.
A Paparazzi Party

Paparazzi has a tendency to be absolutely relentless. English media in particular has long been associated with tabloids, scathing headlines, and critical commentary. Wanting to avoid this, Adele attempted to be as discreet as possible with her personal life. However, one slip up in public indicated something otherwise…
It’s Official

The two were seen wearing matching rings on their ring fingers. From that point on, rumors swirled over a legal partnership. At the 2017 Grammy Awards, Adele put the rumors to rest by mentioning “her husband” in an acceptance speech. She furthered this sentiment at a show later that year. This decision led both Adele and Simon down a rather interesting path.
Becoming Grounded

Adele decided to step away from touring, and instead opted to be a stay-at-home mom. This included splitting her time between her native England and Beverly Hills. As reports suggest, Adele is very involved in her son’s life.

A report from People indicated that Adele is always with her son — whether that means taking him to birthday parties, the park, or on a hike. She’s also involved at her son’s school. Above all else, Adele wanted to provide a sense of normalcy for her otherwise hectic life. While things appeared to be great between herself and her son, the same couldn’t be said for her relationship with Simon.
The End

On April 19, 2019, it was reported by multiple media outlets that Adele and Simon had filed for divorce. Via Adele’s representation, the following was released:
“Adele and her partner have separated. They are committed to raising their son together lovingly. As always they ask for privacy. There will be no further comment.”
While all signs point to an amicable split, there could be some potential financial complications.
A Potentially Pricey Breakup

Adele is estimated to be worth upwards of $180 million. These numbers will only increase with the expected release of her next album this upcoming December. One report states that the two never signed a prenuptial agreement upon being married. This could become a messy situation — particularly due to the couple’s residence.
Rolling In The Cash

The state of California is a bit different than most when it comes to the distribution of assets during a divorce. The two live in California, and Simon’s business is also based in the state. Conventional wisdom states that Simon may be able to procure up to half of Adele’s fortune in a divorce settlement. This would equal a payout of nearly $90 million.
A Nice Gesture

A report from People stated that Adele recently transferred a three-bedroom home over to Simon. The residence (valued at $650,000) is allegedly also registered as the main location of business for Simon’s company. By staying in this Los Angeles suburb, Simon will be able to co-parent his son alongside Adele.
The Final Goal

As of now, the parents will work hand-in-hand to provide young Angelo with a loving home. Both will continue with their personal endeavors.
We often see celebrity divorces end up becoming sensationalized and smeared within the media’s scope. In this case, both Adele and Simon are approaching this split with maturity, class, and perspective. It speaks to both of them as individuals, and thus comes as no surprise that both are excellent parents.
