Having both built themselves as stars within the Country Music scene, it was natural to assume that both Blake and Miranda would meet in crossing. While the energy between the two on stage was undeniable, Blake was still married at the time to a woman named Kaynette. This posed an initial problem for the two to potentially get together. Even then, Miranda admitted having some reservations of her own.

In a later interview with NBC Dateline, Miranda fully admitted that she was cognizant of Blake’s marriage to Kaynette:
“I knew he was married. I had seen their wedding pictures in Country Weekly. I knew better, like, this is off-limits. My parents are private investigators, for God’s sake. I’ve seen this my whole life — affairs, and of all of people to know better, I know better than this.”
While the two remained friends, a development occurred which opened the door for Blake and Miranda to be together.

Blake had made plans to marry Miranda. Being a respectful gentleman, he called Miranda’s father before proposing to ask for his permission/blessing. Once that was procured, Blake asked Miranda to take a stroll in the woods behind their Oklahoma home.

When walking in the woods, Blake popped the marriage question to Miranda. She excitedly said yes — and then alerted all of her fans by announcing the news on her Twitter account. Miranda gushed over the ring:
“I was so proud of him. We’ve been together five years, so he knew exactly what I wanted but it’s so much more perfect than I could have picked out myself.”

Aside from their own music, the duo had a multitude of different entrepreneurial endeavors. Lambert had a line of shoes through the company DSW. Duly, she had a partnership with Chrysler. As the marriage progressed, allegations of cheating swirled around Blake. Despite this, the couple remained dedicated to one another. The support existed during concerts, awards shows, and any public appearance. Blake worked hard to keep the marriage fresh. It included boating trips out on remote lakes in Oklahoma. Alas, the couple ultimately headed down a very tough road.

In July of 2015, the couple released a joint statement which detailed their plans to divorce:
“This is not the future we envisioned. And it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately. We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter.”
While the split appeared to be amicable, it was anything but.

Interestingly enough, the divorce was finalized on the same day as the statement was released. Blake ended up with the couple’s ranch in Oklahoma — whilst Miranda got the family home in Tennessee. On the same day, Blake reportedly ordered Miranda to clear her collection of animals (horse, llama, camel) off his Oklahoma property. From there, things only got worse.

According to TMZ, Blake accused Miranda of cheating on him, and vice/versa. Things got even more heated when Blake created the hit song “She’s Got a Way With Words” on a 2016 album. While there aren’t any overt mentions of Miranda, many assume this song — which speaks about “cheating”, “lying”, and “hurt” — may have to do with Blake’s ex-wife.
“There’s No Doubt I Have a Crush on Gwen”

Since the their divorce, both Blake and Miranda have dated other people. Miranda had relationships with other country stars. However, Blake began dating Gwen Stefani — a fellow co-worker of his on The Voice. This led many to speculate as to whether Blake may have been involved with Gwen during his marriage to Miranda (though there’s no conclusive evidence to confirm that claim). In 2018, Miranda released a song that many considered to be an act of revenge towards Blake.
I Want My Name Changed Back

With her group Pistol Annies, Lambert released a song entitled “Got My Name Changed Back.” While fellow bandmates Angaleena Presley and Ashley Monroe were in the video, it was Lambert who sang virtually the entire song. When looking at the music video, as well as analyzing the lyrics, Lambert certainly didn’t pull any punches.
Some Musical Shade

Her legal last name was “Shelton” before changing it back to Lambert (which may account for the title of the song). Taking place in a courtroom, the music video showed Lambert essentially celebrating over the recovery of her surname. While the video was lighthearted, some of the lyrics were quite abrasive.
Well…This is Uncomfortable

Here’s one powerful verse from the song:
It takes judge to get married, takes a judge to get divorced Well the last couple years, spent a lotta time in court Got my name changed back (yeah yeah) I got my name changed back (yeah yeah) Well I wanted somethin’ new, then I wanted what I had I got my name changed back (yeah yeah)Well I’ve got me an ex that I adored But he got along good with a couple road w*ores Got my name changed back (yeah yeah) I got my name changed back (yeah yeah) I don’t wanna be a Missus on paper no more I got my name changed back (yeah yeah)

Was this song in response to Blake’s song in 2016 — or even their marriage in general? The public doesn’t know, though it appears as if Miranda has moved on quite well. In 2019, Miranda announced her marriage to New York Policeman Brendan McLoughlin.
