Margot Robbie was born on July 2, 1990 in the city of Dalby, Queensland. Dalby is a rather small town — though it sits roughly two-and-a-half hours away from the larger metropolis of Brisbane. Growing up, Robbie had a somewhat interesting upbringing.
A Remote Paradise

Margot and her three siblings (Cameron, Anya, Lachie) were raised primarily by their single mother. Interestingly enough, the family grew up on a remote farm located in the Gold Coast hinterland region. While wildly beautiful, the area wasn’t overly populated.

Life on the farm was far from glamorous. Margot’s paternal side of the family tended to mango trees and sugarcane. Her mother’s family raised grains and crops. As such, Margot quickly learned the value in having a strong work ethic.

Margot grew up participating in ballet — a pastime that many young girls take up at one point or another. However, she also had various responsibilities around the farm. Margot attended the very prestigious Somerset College (college in this sense is the equivalent of high school in Australia). She studied drama — which then propelled an even stronger notion to become an actress. At 17 years of age, she left home for the bright lights of Melbourne. Margot was determined to become a professional actress.

For four years, Margot toiled away in Australia. This included going on a multitude of auditions. Margot did sustain some success with local commercials and guest spots, though she hadn’t yet gotten her big break. Whilst on vacation, Margot got a call which would change her life forever.
The Guest Role of a Lifetime

Margot landed a guest spot on the famed Australian soap opera Neighbours. She was only supposed to be on the program for a short amount of time. However, Margot’s acting was so compelling, that the show wrote a role for her. She lasted on the show for roughly three years. From there, more opportunities popped up.

Margot decided to take the plunge and head to Hollywood. After all, the city is the mecca for people aspiring to be in film or television. When combining Margot’s amazing work ethic with her gorgeous looks, it was only a matter of time before she was noticed by high-level Hollywood executives.

The film The Wolf of Wall Street was a monumental hit. Playing the role of DiCaprio’s wife, Margot knocked it out of the park with a stellar performance. This led to her landing roles alongside Will Smith (Focus), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Z for Zachariah), Tina Fey (Whiskey Tango Foxtrot), and Samuel L. Jackson (The Legend of Tarzan). As her career has continued to develop, Margot became enthralled with new and exciting characters. Her portrayal of Tonya Harding in I, Tonya netted her an Oscar nomination. Margot’s Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad was arguably the film’s most popular character. She even featured as Queen Elizabeth I in the critically acclaimed Mary Queen of Scots. While all this was going on, Margot’s personal life saw some excitement as well.
More Than Just Mates

In 2016, Margot married British director Tom Ackerley. The two met on the set of Suite Française. Margot was acting in the film, and Tom was the third assistant director. The two became friends at first, and even lived together as roommates with other friends in London. However, eventually, the two fell in love — and tied the knot in Margot’s native Australia.
