Before Liam Neeson revived the action-thriller genre with Taken, Denzel played a similar role in a far superior movie, Man on Fire. A former CIA agent, Denzel plays an angry man who must save the girl (Dakota Fanning) that he’s sworn to protect. After Fanning is kidnapped, Washington goes on a rampage and kills everyone in sight. Neeson has nothing on Denzel.
